History
The origins and history are unknown but the first publication date for this nursery rhyme is 1744. The author of the nursery rhyme hickory dickory dock is Jim Aylesworth. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida but as a baby he moved. He lived in many places during his lifetime including: Alabama, Indiana, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas... but by the time Aylesworth was 15 his family lived in Hinsdale, Illinois and that is where he graduated from high school in 1961. He graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Hickory Dickory Dock is a nursery rhyme. lots of parents will tell this story to their kids. It is used to introduce children to telling time. it is about different animals doing different things at different times of the day. for example. Hickory Dickory Dock,The mouse ran up the clock.The clock struck one,The mouse ran down!Hickory Dickory Dock. You would usually just tell the first lines because the rest of the lines are rarely memorized.
